  1. Use miles and points to book your flight. If you have the flexibility, consider flying into one island and out of another to make the most of your points.
  2. Stay in an Airbnb or VRBO. You can often find great deals on places to stay, and you’ll have more space than you would if you stayed in a hotel. Plus, you’ll get to experience The Big Island of Hawaii like a local!
  3. Eat like a local. The Big Island is known for its delicious seafood, so take advantage of that! You can also find great poke bowls, acai bowls, and more at affordable prices. Got to KTA or Sack and Save and shop by the food aisle around 7 pm to get discounted local food.
  4. Find free activities. There are plenty of things to do in Hawaii that won’t cost you a dime. Take a hike, go to the beach, or explore a farmer’s market.
  5. Converse with locals. For the most part, the people that live on this island are very friendly. You can start talking story to anybody and they will happily provide advice. They may offer you advice on a local event that is happening that may not even be advertised! It is always worth it to talk to the locals.
